Converting between the two systems
Some sources say there are 13 ropani in a bigha and others say 13.5. Our calculations suggest about 13.3 ropani to the bigha, and that 1 aana is about 1.88 dhur, which is also in disagreement with certain sources. Perhaps one reason why the subject is so confused is that in reality the conversion is not done. We have found no examples of land measurements in ropani being summed up in a measurement in bigha. The two systems seem to be kept separate.
The conversion factor for these units is as follows
Ropani-Ana-Paisa-Dam system
- 1 Ropani =16Ana
- 1 Ana =4 Paisa
- 1Paisa =4 Dam
Bhigha-Kattha-Dhur system
- 1 Bhigha= 20 Kattha
- 1 Kattha= 20 Dhur
For inter conversion between Ropani and Bhigha
- 1Bhigha=13 Ropani
Similarly in standard units we may use
- 1 Ropani =74feet X 74 feet
- 1 m=3.281 फीट

1 mana = 4 chauthai
